St Ann’s Head on the Dale Peninsular 6th December 2020
At 08:30 there was a very heavy frost and -2. By 10:30 it was a startlingly clear sunny day, when the temperature rose to 6 quite quickly. 14 enjoyed a lovely costal and woodland walk of a little over 7 miles. Lunch at Warwick Bay.. Good to see some new Ramblers members.
The route was anticlockwise from the large Kete car park with a short distance to pick up the coast path and to St. Ann’s Head. There were a number of other people out on the path, but distancing was not a problem. Watwick Bay beach was a lovely location for lunch. At Castlebeach Bay the group turned left through the woods on the permissive path reopened by Friends of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, and their chair was on hand armed with leaflets. The group then dropped down to the edge of Dale, through Blue Anchor Wood, past the now (temporarily) closed Griffin Inn and across the valley to Westdale Bay. The valley field was very wet indeed. The dark clouds and rain were headed for Wexford across the Irish Sea, over which the Irish ferry came in to and left the Haven during the walk
Then a brisk climb back up to Great Castle Head to the coast path, to the car park. With no pub option some refreshment was enjoyed al fresco tailgate party, of very modest proportions.
