Pembrokeshire Ramblers walk 10th March 2019

With wind speeds of 30mph together with gusts of 51mph from the WNW/W/WSW forecast, it was decided to redesign the walk, cutting out two thirds of the planned coastal part going southwards from St Brides to Musselwick Sands.

We departed from Marloes village and walked directly north up to Brides Haven where we enjoyed coffee, some delicious baklava, and the crashing waves in the bright sunshine. Continuing to St. Brides castle (now time - share apartments), with the wind ahead (so strong someone compared it to walking across the Artic!) we followed alternative paths back towards Marloes where 5 ramblers, feeling sufficiently refreshed, and having other commitments,  were able to leave us. The remaining 13 then continued towards the south coast, lunching next to the bird hide at Marloes Mere (such was the sunshine in a sheltered spot, that to have sat inside the hide was not even considered!).

Walking with the wind on our backs, the path was followed from Gateholm Stack until we turned back up past Green Mire Cottage, returning to the north coast just east of High Point. Again with the wind on our backs, the coastal path was followed only as far as Musselwick’s Black Cliff from where we returned to Marloes (and a welcome pint after a 10 1/2 mile walk).
