Sunday 4th July 2021 Nant-y-Coy, Priskilly
New Paths with more options.
Setting out at 10am on Sunday morning, with the possibility of rain showers later, 15 walkers left the lay-by just south of Wolf’s Castle and proceeded along the north side of the Nant-y-coy valley to West Ford farm. From here the route was uphill through fields and along Bridleways to Brimaston Cross.
One object of this walk was to check the line of the footpath between the road at Brimaston Cross and Maes Glaes Farm This path had been impassable for over 10 years and after consultation between Pembrokeshire Ramblers, PCC Countryside Access Team and the landowners a diversion, by passing the farm yard, was agreed. This involved replacing broken and overgrown stiles with six new metal gates and a boardwalk across the stream. This now opens up another option to the path system leading north to Priskilly.
The walkers continued north, between intermittent rain showers, along farm tracks and through fields to the road at Pant-y-blodau After a short walk east on the road the route continued on the bridleway passing Priskilly Golf Club and through Priskilly Forest to the road at Ty-cant. The next part of the walk was to prove more challenging. Tony, our walk leader, was unable to find the path to Stone Hall when he had first checked this walk so had later tried from the opposite end and after some path clearing had established a route across the stream.
By now the weather had cleared, with signs of a feint blue sky up ahead, for a straight forward walk, via Cold Comfort, back to the start point of the walk. The 12mile circuit had been completed earlier than expected, arriving back by 4 pm. Those of us who wished to proceeded to the Pump on the Green at Spittal for a well-earned pint or cup of coffee.
Many thanks to all who attended the walk and for Tony’s efforts on surveying and clearing the route for us.
