Carreg Cennen. Sunday 22nd August 2021
The walk started from the castle car park where a dozen of us gathered to start the short climb to the castle before dropping down through mixed woodland to a small wooden bridge across the river Cennen . From here we started a long but steady climb up onto the Black Mountains and followed mainly sheep tracks through open moorland before reaching Tair Carn Uchaf. The weather was clear enough to give us excellent views of the surrounding countryside and as far as the coast. After a lunch break we walked along the ridge to Tair Carn Isaf before descending to the quiet mountain road and branched off to follow the path which passes the source of the river Loughor where a huge torrent of water appears from an underground lake. From here we continued downhill with more good views of the iconic castle before crossing the river again and climbing back to the car park. After an enjoyable walk Sue treated us all to some home cooked Welsh cakes before a welcome drink in the Castle refreshment rooms. Thanks to everyone for making the journey up and contributing to a great day out.
Chris Wellings.
