Skrinkle to Manorbier circular walk. Wednesday 1st September 2021
Three new members joined the thirteen Ramblers who set out from Skrinkle Haven for a 6 mile walk to Manorbier and back.
The Rambler’s policy is to welcome potential members to take part in three walks before they decide if they would like to join.
Starting from the car park at Skrinkle Haven, overlooking Caldey Island, the route was west along the Coast Path passing above the beach and Church Doors to the perimeter fence of Manorbier camp.
On reaching the access road to the camp the walkers left the Coast Path and continued into Manorbier via the back lanes.
At Manorbier the permissive path at the rear the castle wall took us to the car park and on to the beach for a short coffee break.
After coffee we retraced our steps back to the castle and the path past the Dovecot leading to the main gate.
On leaving the grounds of the castle the route was up hill to the church then along the footpath that runs adjacent to the Coast Path which overlooks the beach.
After following this path for a while, we re -joined the Coast Path at King’s Quoit, a Neolithic cromlech overlooking Manorbier Bay and continued east back towards Skrinkle.
Lunch was taken in the meadow overlooking Presipe beach.
After lunch it was a leisurely walk back to the start by 2.30 pm
The weather was ideal for walking with clear skies and a light breeze.
All walkers enjoyed the day and those who wished adjourned to the Swan Inn at Jameston for refreshments.
Many thanks to all who attended
John Reeves
Walk leader.
