Kilgetty woods and Miners Walk  Wednesday, 10 November 2021

Unfortunately that morning Highway Maintenance had decided to install temporary traffic lights on the nearby roundabout so the walk was a little late in starting, but eventually 21 walkers departed Kilgetty Information Centre car park for a six mile circular walk along the Miners Trail.

This was a route used by the coal miners who worked the pits surrounding Kilgetty in the !8th and !9th century.

The first section, going north from Begelly(Kilgetty) is along the wide flat multi- user trail that runs as far as Thomas Chapel.

From Thomas Chapel the route is via woodland paths and fields to the main Tenby / Narberth road, just north of Folly Farm - thanks to the motorist who stopped to allow all 21 of us to cross the main road.

The route continued along Ryelands Lane to the rail bridge before connecting with a farm track leading downhill to Kilgetty Woods, this offers excellent views east across the valley.

On emerging from the woods, the route continued to the main road beside St. Mary’s Chapel on the edge of Kilgetty. From here it was a straight forward walk back through the village to the car park.

Some of the walkers then made their way to the Begelly Arms for refreshments.

The weather exceeded expectations with bright sunny spells and no rain.

Many thanks to all participants for their company on the walk.

Walk leader.
