CAREW, CRESSWELL QUAY and CRESSELLY CIRCULAR.
Continuing with the theme of shorter mid -week walks 14 walkers set out on a 7.5-mile route from Carew Castle, north to Cresselly returning via Minnis Pits and Carew Newton.
Taking the lane past the castle to Carew tidal mill gave us the chance to check out the bird life surrounding the Millpond, nothing unusual to report apart from a pair of Egrets.
From here it was across fields of grazing sheep and young lambs to Cresswell Quay where we made good use of the seating outside the Cresselly Inn for a short coffee stop. The next section of the walk was mostly along the quiet country roads leading to Cresselly. Once across the main road at Cresselly the route was downhill through Cresselly Big Wood to Minnis Pits. Then more road walking uphill before taking the footpath going west across the fields towards Whitehill.
Before reaching Whitehill we had lunch in a hollow beside a stream. After lunch there were a few stiles and a footbridge to cross, all in need on some serious maintenance, before we reached the road.
From the main road it was on past the quarry at Carew Newton before returning to the cars.
There were patches of muddy ground crossing some of the fields but the route was mostly mud free and apart from a light shower when having our coffee stop, no rain. The sun did show it’s face as we neared the car park at the end of the walk.
The bar and log fire at the Cresselly Inn provided an excellent location for after walk refreshments.
Many thanks to all who attended the walk.
