Pembrokeshire

Cwmdu   Saturday 23rd April 2022

On a breezy but bright April day, 10 of us made the trip up to the start of the walk. After a brief description of the walk and its highlights we proceed to climb up through fields and stopped on route to take a breadth and enjoy the views of the surrounding Carmarthenshire countryside. We eventually arrived at a lake with some Canada geese on and proceeded along the top of the hill until dropping downhill slightly and walking past Taliaris Mansion, an impressive building with a tremendous view. After a stop for refreshments and a brief history of the estate and mansion we continued past an old lodge house and through beautiful bluebell and wood anemone woods either side of the country lane.

We continued our journey through Tariaris woods and climbed again to the hidden lake surrounded by mixed woodland. Here we sat on the shore and enjoyed a picnic lunch in such a peaceful setting. With more miles to cover we soon set off again and found our way through little used paths until we came to the dead end lane that led us downhill to Parcmawr where we walked across fields across a stream and came out near Cwmdu. From here we walked along a quiet country lane passing Rhyd ar Wen and turned left at Cwmcerrig passing Cwmcochied and back into the small but vibrant village of Cwmdu. After a brief talk about the village and the NT owned terrace; inn, Post Office and shop run by the local community we pressed on along a long track which led us past Cefn Hendre where a grisly murder took place back in the fifties. Here we heard about the details surrounding it before heading on back to the start and our waiting cars

Thanks to everone for making the journey out of Pembrokeshire for a change of scenery and judging by the positive comments after the walk a very enjoyable day out was had by all.
