Bannau Sir Gaer
The ten Pembrokeshire Ramblers who travelled to the Black Mountain on 14th September were rewarded by almost perfect conditions for an excellent walk.
From the car park we followed the track alongside the Afon Sawddle up to Lyn y Fan Fach and then the gradient increased for the steady climb up to the ridge. With the majority of the ascent completed we could then stroll along the ridge whilst taking in the extensive views.
Lunch was taken on the summit of Fan Foel. We then continued to Fan Foel followed by the steep descent to Lyn y Fan Fawr. The return leg ran along the foot of the escarpment, the recent dry weather making for good going even in the low lying areas.
Refreshments were taken at Llangadog, before the drive back to Pembrokeshire.
