Pembrokeshire

Pre AGM walk 26th October 2019

What was intended to be an exploration of the new urban footpath on either side of the Cleddau was very curtailed by the flooding resulting from the heavy rain over the preceding days, and the very full river.  Parts on the Crowhill side that Nigel explored some 45 minutes earlier had become impassable without wellington boots, of which there were a few but none of them ventured very far. Back on the football/Bridge Meadow side the paths were subject to varying degrees of flooding and the accessible football pitch was clearly unplayable.  George was able to give the assembled company, which included a member of the Ramblers Board of Trustees a flavour of what would be appearing on the interpretation boards when they are erected. The new bridge across the river, which is still tidal at the point of the old weir where the older populace of Haverfordwest learned to swim before the construction of the now demolished swimming pool, is scheduled for installation in January 2020 so providing a circular countryside walk on the very edge of the town.  The tidal nature has resulted in the Crown Estate taking a commercial interest in requiring a fee to permit the over flying of the river. This new facility will no doubt be busy in the spring.
