With a substantial increase in demand for places on walks since lockdown, it was decided to offer this walk on 2 consecutive days. Both were fully booked.
Saturday
Despite an unfavourable weather forecast an enthusiastic group of ramblers were greeted by fine weather for the start of this walk from Amroth. The route initially followed the coast path to Wisemans Bridge before heading inland up Pleasant Valley. A coffee stop was had at Grove Colliery, an interesting location often overlooked by visitors to the area. The path continued to climb to pass the outskirts of Kilgetty.
With the threat of rain an early lunch stop was taken near Kilgetty Wood. Just in time as the rain arrived shortly after. Beyond Pen-y-Cwm-Slack a short stretch of road provided some respite before crossing some very muddy fields. The mud adhering to boots was quickly washed off in the flooded path that followed.
Quiet lanes then took us through Longstone and on to the Knights Way . This junction is the highest point on the route so from here it was all downhill via Colby Woodland back to Amroth.
Sunday
Weather conditions were slightly better for the re-run of this walk. The rain, when it came, was in short sharp showers. Given the slog across the muddy fields and flooded path the day before and in view of heavy overnight rain, the group was given the option of a road detour. There was a unanimous vote to take on the challenge, and they were duly rewarded by slightly better conditions.
